A DETAILED ITINERARY: 6 DAYS TANZANIA SAFARI
DAY 1: ARUSHATOWN-LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK
After breakfast, you will be greeted by our Select Adventure Safari guide or driver, who will provide a brief safari briefing. You will drive to Lake Manyara National Park for a game drive and a picnic lunch. When you arrive in Manyara, you will be greeted by the Great Rift Valley Escarpment view and fun-makers’ baboons in large groups. We will pass through Mto Wa Mbu, an agricultural and fresh produce market town near the entrance to Lake Manyara National Park.
The town is a souvenir hunter’s paradise, with thousands of souvenir salespeople waiting to pounce at the slightest invitation. Lake Manyara National Park, located at the foot of the Great Rift Valley’s western escarpment, is one of Tanzania’s most dramatically located African wildlife areas. It consists of a massive but shallow soda lake (which covers two-thirds of the park). The park’s diverse habitat attracts a wide range of animals, including one of Africa’s most densely populated herds of African elephants, famous tree-climbing lions, and large flocks of flamingos drawn to the lake’s algae.
We will have a picnic lunch inside the park and go on two exciting game drives in the morning and afternoon to look for the wildlife and birdlife that Manyara has to offer, as well as see the famous hot spring known as “Maji Moto.” You will be transferred to the Lake Manyara Hotel or Lake Manyara Serena Lodge in the late afternoon for a hot shower, dinner, and overnight.
DAY 2: LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK TO SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK
After breakfast, drive to Serengeti National Park, passing through Olduvai Gorge, where the Leakey family discovered fossils of human and animal ancestors dating back nearly two million years. The Olduvai Gorge is a world historical site with much history about the earliest human beings and much more historical information that is well worth a visit. You’ll eat a picnic lunch on the way to the Serengeti. Upon arrival, you will check into the Serengeti Sopa, Seronera Wildlife Lodge, or Serengeti Serena for a hot shower, dinner, and an overnight stay.
DAY 3: SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK, FULL DAY
After breakfast, you will meet your tour guide and depart for a full-day game drive in the Serengeti National Park. The Serengeti is one of the Tanzania’s largest national park, covering more than 14,000 square kilometers. The park has numerous unique features and attractions, including the annual great wildebeest migration (in which wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle migrate from Serengeti National Park to Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya and return later in the year), being famous for its endless plains and savannah vegetation, balloon safaris, and being the richest park full of wildlife and birdlife elsewhere in Africa. Many species of wildlife live in the park, including the lion, African leopard, African elephant, cheetah, African buffalo, Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelle, topi, eland, waterbuck, hyena, baboon, impala, African wild dog, and giraffe.
The park also has over 500 bird species, including ostriches, secretary birds, Kori bustards, crowned cranes, marabou storks, martial eagles, lovebirds, and vultures of various species. Your tour guide will return you late in the afternoon to your lodge for a hot shower, dinner, and an overnight stay at Serengeti Sopa, Seronera Wildlife Lodge, or Serengeti Serena.
DAY 4: SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK/NNGORONGORO CONSERVATION AREA
After breakfast, you will have a picnic lunch and then go on a morning game drive until the afternoon in Serengeti National Park. After that, you will have your picnic lunch and take a short break before continuing on to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. You will see game along the way and have the opportunity to photograph these wild animals. When you arrive in Ngorongoro, check into the lodge for a hot shower, dinner, and an overnight stay at Ngorongoro Serena/Ngorongoro Sopa and Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge.
DAY 5: NGORONGORO CRATER
After breakfast, you will be met by your driver guide and transferred to the crater gate with your picnic lunch, ready for a full-day crater tour. Explore the crater, which is famous for its high concentration of wildlife and birdlife. This is probably the most enjoyable day because you can see how the wildlife awakens and begins their daily activities. If you’re lucky, you might see a predator hunting prey or any other adventure that Ngorongoro Crater has in store for you.
The Ngorongoro Crater is well-known for its various attractions, which include alkaline lakes, forest and different vegetation, hot springs, various types of wildlife and birdlife, and its landscape. The crater’s common wildlife includes lions, leopards, zebras, elephants, African buffalo, warthogs, hyenas, wild dogs, the rare black rhino, wildebeest, and a variety of migratory and resident birdlife, with over 350 different species recorded. In the afternoon, you will be transferred to Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge or Ngorongoro Serena for a hot shower, dinner, and overnight.
DAY 6: NGORONGORO, MAASAI VILLAGE, ARUSHA TOWN, DEPARTURE
After breakfast, you will have the opportunity to visit the Maasai village of Ngorongoro with your picnic lunch. You will have the opportunity to integrate with them and their daily activities, including learning about their culture and taking photographs with them. The Maasai community is one of Tanzania’s few remaining communities (tribes) that practice their culture of early human development. Not only are they warriors, but most of them pass through the Ngorongoro crater with their cattle, unafraid of the wild animals that live on the crater floor, including dangerous lions.
In the afternoon, you’ll return to Arusha via Lake Manyara National Park and the famous Mto Wa Mbu village. We will arrive in Arusha late in the afternoon and transfer you to your hotel or to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight back home.
